Hope House (the Home) was started in April 2002 by Pastors Glen and Rob Bruce of African Growth Ministries (A Christian Mission).  It is registered as a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) and is also licensed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Home opened with two babies and has since grown to care for up to 23 babies at any one time. We accept babies aged between one day to six months. They are brought in mostly from hospitals and clinics and we care for them until they are either adopted or attain the age of three years. Once they attain the age of three before they are adopted, we graduate them to a carefully vetted home that cares for older children. Since the home was started, 250 babies have been adopted by mostly Kenyan families.

The Home receives no funding from the Government and relies completely on the generosity of people from Kenya and overseas to provide the necessary funds and gifts needed to care for the babies and maintain the home.

Our Governance & Management

The founders of the home now only hold  Founding Director position, they are now based in Australia and are not involved in the running of the Home. The Managing Director is a Kenyan, who has worked with the Mission for 15 years. A Board which consists of 8 members provides governance oversight. It meets every at least once a quarter or more frequently depending on need.

The Home is run by a team of qualified Missionaries and local staff as well as volunteers. The staff consists of the Home manager (American), Marketing manager (Australian), Social worker, Accountant, Registered nurses and support staff (all Kenyans).

Our Appeal

Since the Home was started in 2002, we have operated in three different locations. Our relocation has been necessitated because the landlords have wanted to use the premises for other purposes. This has inconvenienced us greatly and has also been disruptive for the babies. We are currently housed in rental premises where we are paying a rent of Ksh. 120,000/= (Approx. $1,328 US). In a bid to manage our overheads and maximize our resources on the babies, we would like to purchase our own property.

To purchase 1 Acre in a suitable area, will cost approximately 16,000,000 Kenyan shillings.
($213,000 U.S., $267,000 CAN, $246,000 AUD; 133,000 GBPounds and 178,000 Euro )

Once we purchase a property, we will then start raising funds to commence building a home for the babies.

We believe that by building a permanent home, the babies will thrive in an environment that is quiet with  larger accommodation which will provide more space indoors and outdoors. This will also save us a lot of money in rent and thus avail more resources for the babies. We shall also be able to expand by taking in more babies.
